Instructions for Presenters

Oral Presentations

Media: Oral presentations can be made via transparencies on an overhead projector or using a computer projection system (PowerPoint or Acrobat). No slide projector or video projector will be available unless the workshop organizers are notified by Aug. 31.

Length: Oral presentations are allotted 20 minutes. The presentation should be 15 minutes or less. The remaining 5 minutes is for questions and to change speakers. Please do not plan a talk longer than 15 minutes (15-25 slides).

Computer Projection: PowerPoint or Adobe Acrobat may be used for computer presentations.

  • Loading on the Computer: Please email your presentation to j-schwille@nwu.edu so that it can be loaded on the workshop laptop computer prior to the workshop. Or bring a CD-ROM when you register so that we can load the presentation on the laptop before the conference begins. (Please do not plan to use your own laptop to avoid time-consuming set-up between speakers.)
  • Animations/Video: The best format for animations/video is MPEG. An alternative format is AVI. If you include an animation in your PowerPoint presentation, be sure that the MPEG/AVI file is included along with the PowerPoint file. Typically, PowerPoint does not imbed a video in the PowerPoint file, so both files must be present on the computer or CD-ROM.
  • Pre-Workshop Testing: Different language versions of PowerPoint may perform differently. Therefore, it is advisable to email us your presentation (or at least a segment of your presentation with animation) to test that it works properly on our laptop computer. Email your presentation or a portion of it to j-schwille@nwu.edu so that it can be tested on the workshop laptop computer prior to the workshop.
Poster Presentations

Schedule: All posters will be presented during a dessert reception on Thursday evening (September 6) from 19:30 to 21:00. Poster authors are expected to remain near their poster from 19:45 to 20:45.

Board Size: The cork-boards are 115 cm high by 175 cm wide. The boards are supported on an easel. Please be sure that the lettering and figures for the poster are large enough to read from a distance of 1 m.

Papers Table

All Workshop participants are invited to bring reprints of recent papers to the Workshop. The reprints will be placed on a "Papers Table", so other Workshop participants can pick up copies of your recent publications.
